Our Certifications
Our HWRco products go through strenuous testing and auditing in order to meet the standards of relevant certifications, so you can be sure that when we say home compostable, our products really do break down in your home compost. So here’s a “breakdown” (no pun intended) of our certifications that you’ll see on our products.
Compostable Products
The AS 4736 symbol and the AS 5810 lets you know that our packaging is both industrially and home compostable. Having these symbols on our packaging also allows for the easy separation from food or organic waste from landfill. With our packaging meeting the Australian standards governed by the Australasian Bioplastics Australia, you know it’s legit.
AS5810 Home Compostable Standard
The Home Compostable Verification logo is a symbol that the product’s claims of biodegradability and compostability as per AS 5810-2010 has been verified and accredited by The Australasian Bioplastic Association.
The Home Compostable Verification logo clearly identifies and differentiates packaging materials as biodegradable and compostable. This means that all the products carrying that logo can easily go in your home compost bin and will take up to 12 weeks to completely decompose. In acquiring this certification, our products undergo a rigorous test regime outlined by AS 5810-2010 and carried out by recognised independent accredited laboratories to the Australian Standard AS 5810-2010.
AS4736 Industrial Compostable Standard
The seedling logo is a symbol that the product’s claims of biodegradability and compostability as per AS4736 has been verified. Just like the high standard set for the home compostable certification, the industrial compostable certification goes through an equally rigorous testing regime outlined by AS4736 and carried out by recognised independent accredited laboratories to the AS4736 standard.
OK Compost Certification
Like the AS 4736 symbol and the AS 5810 for the product’s claims of biodegradability and compostability in Australia, the ‘OK HOME Compost’ certification shown below is the European equivalent that reassures you that our packaging is BOTH home and industrially compostable.

paper & textile products
To make things even better, our paper products are internationally FSC-A000521 certified and our cotton products are GOTS 100% Organic Cotton. This means that our products are credible in being organic, as well as being environmentally and socially resourced in an ethical manner! Here’s a little more background on each of these organisations behind the certifications.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
HWRco proudly stands by the FSC’s mission to promote the management of forests worldwide in a socially, environmentally and economically beneficial way. With the council operating in more than 80 countries in the world, they create community relations in respecting Indigenous people’s rights to maintain their land in these forests all while making a massive environmental impact.
For a bit over a decade now, the FSC are highly reputable as the most meticulous and credible forest certification system. Due to such a high standard, this means the paper products used for our HWRco products have been verified as ethically sourced and handled.
Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
GOTS set a highly regarded standard for the use of organic products in textile materials and puts puts emphasis on their products being produced with the least possible harm made to the environment done under strict supervision on natural and synthetic chemical utilisation while also respecting the labour conditions gone into this work.
GOTS set a strict requirement regarding ecological and social standards in providing companies with such a certification. GOTS verification is only provided their certificate to particular companies, and upholds their strict standards by conducting on-site inspections to truly authenticate that all GOTS environmental and social requirements are up to par. With this certification, HWRCo’s organic cotton products are non-toxic, pesticide free and contain no genetically modified organisms in them.
